On air, the Brazilian reference site for bone dysplasias

A group of Brazilian experts in bone dysplasias, or osteochondrodysplasias, as this family of disorders of the skeleton is known, has just launched the site OCD (www.ocd.med.br). The OCD is a pioneering initiative in Brazil and aims to offer aid to the diagnosis of more than 300 genetic conditions known to produce skeletal changes, many associated with short stature.

 The OCD is maintained by teachers of UNICAMP and is headquartered in Campinas, São Paulo. Since 2012, this group has been working on networking with other international reference centers in another initiative known as Projeto Cosmo-B, about which we have already talked in this blog.

The OCD opens the possibility of assisting physicians in Brazil (and abroad, too) to set early diagnosis of bone dysplasias. For many situations, early diagnosis allows doctors and families to implement measures and appropriate care more quickly. Thus, it is possible to reduce or mitigate the incidence of clinical complications and improve quality of life for individuals affected by these genetic conditions or even, for some of them, to offer the right pharmacological therapy.
